An abdominoplasty — also known as a tummy tuck — is a cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the appearance of loose skin and excess fat in the abdomen area.

During a tummy tuck, excess skin and fat are removed from the abdominal area. Afterwards, the connective tissue in the abdomen is reconnected and tightened with sutures to improve the overall look and functionality of the abdomen. This can improve the appearance of stretch marks and excess skin in the targeted area.

There are a number of reasons why an abdominoplasty may be right for you. You may have excess fat, poor elasticity of the skin, or weakened connective tissue in your abdomen caused by drastic changes in weight, pregnancy, abdominal surgery, aging and more.

What can you expect from this procedure?

The tummy tuck procedure is done in our outpatient surgical facility. During a tummy tuck, you will be under general anesthesia, which means you are completely unconscious and unable to feel pain. This procedure typically takes two to three hours.

After the procedure, your abdominal incision will be covered with surgical dressing and small tubing might be placed along the incision site to drain any excess blood or fluid. It’s normal to have swelling in the surgical area.

You will be likely to receive pain medication take within the following days after the procedure.
Like many other cosmetic surgeries, you’ll wear a supportive abdominal garment (abdominal binder) for about six weeks after your tummy tuck. The supportive garment helps prevent fluid buildup and provides abdominal support while your body heals.
