IPL is similar to a laser treatment; however, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light at your skin, while IPL releases light of many different wavelengths, similar to a photo flash.
The light from IPL is scattered and less focused than a laser, and can penetrate down to the second layer of your skin without harming the top layer, so it causes less damage to your skin than other treatments. It also doesn’t cause any damage to surrounding tissues.
How Does it work?
Cells in your skin absorb the light energy during your treatment, which is converted into heat. The heat then goes to work. It can destroy pigmentation to clear up unwanted spots, for example. IPL has the ability to treat a range of skin conditions at the same time.
IPL therapy can be used anywhere on the body, but it may be less effective on uneven areas.
